"Ms. Scott, what did I do wrong? Why are you suddenly so cold?" Alberto looked innocent.
I didn't answer him. I just glanced at the time on my phone. It was already 11 o'clock at night. There were noticeably fewer pedestrians on the street, making it feel somewhat deserted.
Frederic's phone rang again. As soon as I answered, I was about to speak, but my hand was forcefully grabbed by someone. Alberto, who had just been gentle and polite, now had an angry expression on his face and said, "Come with me!"
"Let go of me!" I exclaimed in shock. I didn't expect Alberto's sudden change. He had a strong grip on me and was practically dragging me toward the car.
Occasionally, passersby would come by. They were also afraid to come forward and help me. I had never encountered such an emergency before. For a moment, my mind was in a state of confusion. I remembered the phone call that was still connected, so I shouted a few times, "Help!"
Alberto shoved me into the car and snatched my phone, "Be quiet!"
Leonel was smoking in the driver's seat. He turned around and gave me a sinister smile, "Sylvia, are you surprised?"
"Leonel, what do you want to do?" I tried my best to keep myself calm.
"You despicable woman. You caused me to lose my job. Janessa also broke up with me. You left me with nothing. I must teach you a lesson. I'm not afraid of anything. Tonight, I will make you pay ten times the price!" Leonel threw his cigarette butt and drove away.
After a long time, the car stopped at a dock. Leonel and Alberto took me to a container warehouse. Before I could steady myself, a slap hit my face. I felt a sharp pain on my face and my head was spinning.
Alberto brought a chair. Leonel then tightly tied me up with a rope. Leonel kept insulting me, using extremely offensive language.
"You have two options now," Leonel extended two fingers. "The first one is to transfer 800 thousand dollars to me as compensation. The second one is for both of us to murder you and throw you into the sea."
I didn't know Leonel was so cruel before.
"Leonel, you were together with Janessa for so long, and she treated you so well, but you betrayed her. Shouldn't you let her go? You made a mistake yourself. Why are you blaming me?" I stared at Leonel.
"It's none of your business," Leonel seemed to be provoked by my words again. He suddenly kicked me to the ground. The back of my head also hit the ground hard. I felt dizzy and my head throbbed.
Alberto and I had no grudge. Alberto must have been after money. He stopped Leonel, who was about to attack. "Forget it. Instead of taking her life, let's take her money."
I was helped up by them again. Leonel aimed my phone at me. After unlocking the screen, he opened the online banking app. Leonel set the amount and then asked me to provide the password.
"I can't transfer that much in one go. There is a limit for transfers." I endured the headache and tried to buy some time. "I can only transfer 10,000 dollars per transaction. You will need to make multiple transfers."
I deceived Leonel. He had no idea what the limit of my bank card was.
Leonel's economic condition was average. He probably had never tried a large money transfer. It was very likely that I had deceived him.
Sure enough, he changed the amount to 10,000 dollars again. Every time he made a transfer, he had to reset it.
"Also transfer some money to me," Alberto said to Leonel, his eyes turning green with envy.
They started to transfer money with great focus. Sometimes they accidentally turned off the screen and had to ask me to unlock it again. Every minute and every second they wasted was hope for me.
I stared at the door of the warehouse. My heart was beating fast. I repeated a name, Frederic, countless times in my mind.
The last phone call was my only hope. Leonel had gone insane. Even if he got the money, he was likely to harm me.
