I stopped him. "Don't go, Dad. You know I have been suffering for many years. Since I have already let go, it's better for everyone if we just get a divorce. It won't benefit my family if we have a falling out. Don't pay such a high price for this matter."
I was very rational because I had already experienced this kind of thing once.
With my persuasion, my dad chose to respect my decision. I breathed a sigh of relief. Indeed, by making appropriate requests at the right time, we can achieve the desired outcome.
If I had proposed a divorce before Frederic and Emilia's affair was discovered, both sets of parents would have advised me to think it over.
There was an incident that happened when only a few people knew about my divorce lawsuit.
After ending the call with my father, I hesitated for a moment. Eventually, I chose to call Tristan back.
"Where are you?" Tristan's tone sounded worried. "Evie talked to Emilia about something, did you know?"
"I got it. Frederic called me and said that if anything happened to Emilia, I shouldn't expect to have an easy time either," I said calmly while eating my meal. "Do you also think that I was the one who told Evie about this?"
Tristan was Frederic's good friend. He would definitely stand by Frederic's side.
Anyway, in their eyes, I was always just a resentful woman who would do anything to get Frederic.
Tristan answered quickly, "No, I know it's not you."
I was surprised, "Do you believe me?"
"Well, didn't you want a divorce? It's your own trouble if you didn't tell Evie before that," Tristan replied.
"I didn't expect you to believe me, thank you." I felt somewhat relieved.
"What are you going to do?" Tristan asked again.
I told Tristan about the divorce lawsuit I had already filed. There was a brief silence on the other end of the phone. Then I heard rustling sounds, as if he was shifting in bed. He asked, "Really?"
I laughed. "Can this be fake? Frederic should receive a notice from the court in a few days. You are his best friend, and he will definitely tell you. But this might be bad news for you."
If I divorced Frederic, he would be able to openly be with Emilia. The difficulty of Tristan undermining their relationship would also increase.
"This is not bad news. It's quite good," Tristan said lazily, "Wishing you a successful divorce."
"Were you sleeping?" I abruptly changed the topic.
"Well, I'm taking a break today," Tristan replied meaningfully. "You know, I'm all alone, without a date, and nothing to do."
I sensed Tristan's deep loneliness. I became curious. "Can't you find a girlfriend? Don't you have any women you like?"
Tristan was not the kind of person who liked to open up to others, so I was prepared for him to hang up on me. But I didn't expect him to not do so.
"Yes," he answered softly.
"Then let's go chase after her!" I felt an inexplicable excitement in my heart. Is the scene of two men fighting over one woman from the previous life about to unfold?
"Inappropriate," Tristan replied calmly.
