I couldn't believe Frederic would send such cheesy messages. He seemed to be making Emilia happy by doing so.
Frederic said he would handle Emilia's affairs while trying to please her at the same time. I felt it was ironic. If I had promised him another chance before, wouldn't I be a fool now?
Just when I was feeling a bit upset, Emilia sent me a message: "Sylvia, happy new year! I hope you can find true happiness in the new year."
Emilia was purely trying to provoke me.
I replied, "Thank you, I can do it." I am planning to go abroad after the New Year, but Frederic refuses to divorce me, so we have to live separately for two years before we can start the divorce process. You have to work hard during these two years!"
Afterward, I quickly took a screenshot of the New Year's greetings that Frederic had just sent me and sent it to Emilia.
At the same time, I reminded her not to let Frederic look for me anymore, and that I was different from her, as I was very wealthy.
I was watching the chat box with Emilia and it showed that she was typing. She was probably angry and didn't know how to reply.
I didn't have the leisure to argue with her on New Year's Eve. After watching the fireworks for a while, I went back to my room to sleep.
On the first day of the new year, I was woken up by my mom. We were going to visit my uncle Jeff. I also have an aunt who lives a bit far from us, but my dad takes us to visit her every year.
Everyone is usually very busy, so it's hard to get together except through phone calls. Holidays and special occasions are the times when family bonds are the strongest, so I enjoy them very much.
"Uncle, Aunt, Happy New Year!" I greeted them with a smile as soon as I arrived at Jeff's house.
"Syl, you came! Happy New Year and welcome!" Lucy warmly greeted us.
The house was warm and cozy. On the creamy oak table, there was a delicate fruit platter and some sparkling candies. I sat on the sofa, eating and listening to my parents, Jeff, and Lucy chatting over tea.
At this moment, the doorbell rang again. Jeff went to open the door and then I heard Dylan's voice, "Mr. Scott, Happy New Year!"
"Oh, hi Dylan, Happy New Year and welcome!" I, Jeff, was quite surprised but also very happy.
I looked at Dylan blankly as he sat down in front of me. He smiled at me and said, "Syl, happy new year."
"He seems to be... Greta's brother, right? I met him a few years ago," my mom said after looking at Dylan for a few seconds.
"Yes, Mr. and Mrs. Scott, Happy New Year. I'm Dylan, Greta's brother. I've been working abroad for the past few years and just returned at the end of the year," Dylan replied gently. "I've worked with Mr. Scott several times overseas. I heard he was back in the country for the New Year, so I came to try my luck."
Did Dylan actually collaborate with Jeff? As I think about it carefully, they both seem to have done business at Luxvia.
My dad laughed and said, "So that's how it is. Dylan, you're really promising. I heard that you've been doing great with your family's branch in Luxvia. Why did you suddenly come back?"
This problem made me quickly lower my head. It's all because of Greta!
Dylan glanced at me and then replied, "After staying abroad for a long time, I still miss home. Besides, I am already in my thirties and have been single for a long time. My parents want me to find a girlfriend soon."
My parents exchanged a glance. A tacit understanding that I didn't want to see appeared in their eyes.
My phone rang promptly and I quickly got up to answer it. It was Greta calling, "Hey, did my brother arrive yet?"
"Is it something you said again?" I really wanted to teach Greta a lesson.
"I just casually mentioned that you went to Jeff's house. I didn't know that Dylan and Jeff were close." Greta showed an innocent attitude.
I knew there was no such coincidence. It turned out that it was all arranged by Greta.
