"I'm not going this year, why don't you take Emilia instead?" I casually said, with my hands in the pockets of my coat, gracefully passing on this opportunity to Emilia.
I believed that she really needed this opportunity.
Frederic frowned, his gaze also became somewhat complex. His eyes were not openly displeased, but rather carried a restrained emotion of subtle discontent.
"We will not get divorced. I will handle Emilia's matters."
To be honest, when I heard his words, I doubted if I was hallucinating.
Because he seemed to be telling me that he chose me and was ready to give up on Emilia.
Isn't this outrageous? Did he just give up on his true soulmate like that?
"Frederic, stop joking around. Don't give me these meaningless promises. No, this probably doesn't even qualify as a promise!" I calmly refused.
After I finished speaking, I turned around and wanted to go inside, but Frederic grabbed my arm.
"Let me give it a try, okay?" he spoke to me for the first time with a pleading tone.
Even if he wanted to divorce me in his previous life, he never lowered his attitude like this.
I was confused. Did Frederic really fall in love with me?
He couldn't possibly love me more deeply than Emilia did. Even if he wanted to give up, he should give up on me. I think Frederic is under pressure from his family, and his feelings for Emilia haven't reached the point where he would fight the whole world for her yet. So he is planning to continue using me to appease his family.
This is the only reason I could think of that made sense and was very reliable.
"You don't have to try anymore. You should go back, my dad hasn't come back today. If he comes back later and sees you, it will be embarrassing for you, and that would be troublesome." My rationality took the upper hand.
It was a coincidence that my dad happened to have some urgent matters to attend to, while my mom was busy cooking at home, so she didn't know that Frederic had come.
Seeing Frederic, my father's face instantly darkened as if he had seen something he despised. He sternly asked, "What are you here for?"
"Dad," Frederic called politely and respectfully.
"Don't call me dad, I'm not. You will soon have a new father-in-law. You should call him dad instead." My father's response was cruel and heartless.
I was afraid that the situation would become too embarrassing, so I quickly went over and grabbed my dad's arm. "Dad, mom needs someone to help her, you should go quickly. I'll handle things here."
My dad promised me that he wouldn't interfere too much in the matter between me and Frederic, so he reluctantly went in with some reluctance.
"You see, now my family has a very negative impression of you. Frederic, even if we don't divorce for the time being, there won't be a good outcome. I have convinced my parents not to interfere in our affairs, so you should go back and clarify things with your family," I calmly said to Frederic.
Frederic stared at me. "I didn't intend to get a divorce. Is there anything that needs to be clarified?"
"How long do you still want to delay me?" I blurted out. "How can you be so malicious? Even if I agreed to marry your grandfather back then, causing your parents to pressure you, it was still your consent. You also saw the benefits that marriage would bring you. Why should everything be blamed on me in the end?"
Frederic's expression and tone suddenly changed. "Sylvia, don't you realize what you made me lose?"
I looked puzzled. "Freedom?"
Frederic sneered, "Fuck freedom."
That's true. After we got married, he still lived freely, without any restraint due to his married status.
Freedom was just a plaything to him, it was not important at all.
Then I really didn't know what I had caused him to lose.
At that moment, my phone rang. It was a call from my mother-in-law. Although Frederic and I had been having a serious argument, my mother-in-law had always been on my side. So, it wouldn't be appropriate for me to reject her call.
I walked to the side and answered the phone, and my mother-in-law's voice came through. She said, "Syl, will you and Frederic come back for dinner?"
