Chapter 195 Emilia and Frederic: A Tale of Love, Secrets, and Substitutes

Frederic answered, "Greta went to the bar, so I guess you weren't at her house."

I thought Greta was truly a talented person and lived up to her bold words. The bar was her second home.

"Oh, fine. Thank you for helping me out. You can go back now," I said, wrapping my robe around me, still maintaining a cold demeanor.

Frederic remained indifferent. He even sat down beside me, displaying a resolute refusal to leave.

I am not wearing a bra or underwear right now. When Frederic checked my feet earlier, I relied on tightly covering myself with a bathrobe, otherwise I would have left long ago.

I thought to myself, "How can I change clothes while he is sitting here?"

"How much did my mom and you talk about Lillian?" Frederic unexpectedly brought up that girl to me.

"Not much, just mentioned Lillian and your relationship. Then she told me that she jumped into the river in anger because you married me," I said, lowering my gaze with a calm tone.

When mentioning Lillian, I could clearly feel the silence in Frederic's presence.

That was his taboo, if it weren't for him not wanting to divorce me, he wouldn't have allowed my mother-in-law to tell me those things.

"Emilia looked very much like her." Frederic's words left me speechless.

I thought, "As an innocent victim, what is there for me to say about this play of true love's substitute?"

If we have to blame someone, blame it on me for not looking enough like Lillian. Otherwise, in five years' time, I would have been enough to make Frederic fall in love with me.

"How did you guys meet?" It took me a while to ask a question.

"A friend introduced," Frederic replied casually.

"How long have you known each other?" I asked again.

Frederic stopped responding. Although he mentioned Lillian, it was clear that he didn't want to bring her up too much.

I wisely kept silent. I thought since I had a date with Tristan tonight, maybe he could tell me more.

The ringing of the mobile phone broke the silence between Frederic and me. I glanced at his phone and saw that it was Emilia's call.

Frederic answered the phone without hesitation. I averted my gaze, feeling a sense of sadness in my heart, "Did he not realize that he couldn't bring himself to be cruel to Emilia?"

"I'll be right there!" Without knowing what Emilia said, Frederic's face instantly changed, and he got up and walked outside.

I didn't stop Frederic, I just watched silently as his figure disappeared, and then heard the sound of the door slamming shut.

I didn't know how long I had been sitting on the bed until Tristan called, and I realized it was already dark outside.

Moreover, it started to drizzle outside, with the sound of pitter-patter hitting the windowsill.

"Open the door, I am at the entrance," Tristan said, panting slightly as if he had come in a hurry.

"I couldn't move. The password was Frederic's birthday, you can come in by yourself," I licked my already dry lips and replied.

Soon after, the sound of the door opening came from the phone, and at the same time, there was also a sound in the living room.

I hung up the phone and shouted, "Tristan, I'm here!"

Tristan's figure quickly appeared at the bedroom door. Shimmering raindrops glistened on his black hair.

Tristan carried a chill from outside, making him appear even colder.

"What's going on? Why can't you move?" Tristan walked into my bedroom with big strides. He noticed that I was only wearing a bathrobe, a look of surprise flashed across his face, and then he immediately averted his gaze.

I awkwardly tightened my bathrobe around my chest and said, "I slipped in the bathroom again and now both of my feet are swollen, I can't move."
